Biography
Beginnings
Neeta Lulla began working in film costumes in the mid-1980s and became one of the first designers to bring a fashion designer’s approach to Hindi film wardrobes.
Iconic costumes
Her costumes for Sridevi in Yash Chopra’s Lamhe (1991) won her first National Film Award. She later designed for Devdas (2002), sharing the award, and for the Mughal-era epic Jodhaa Akbar (2008), whose lavish costumes for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won another National Award.
Marathi cinema
She won her fourth National Award for Balgandharva (2011), a Marathi film about the stage singer Bal Gandharva, who famously played women’s roles.
Fashion
Alongside films she runs a couture label known for bridal wear, and has trained and mentored young designers.
