Terms of use
The rules for using TrackFame — what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.
At a glance
- TrackFame is free to use. Be at least 13 to create an account, and keep it secure.
- You own what you post. Suggestions you send may be rewritten and published by our team, and you are credited for them.
- Only suggest public figures, use real sources, and only upload photos you have the right to share.
- No harassment, private information, spam, scraping beyond limits or security probing.
- You can delete your account at any time; we may suspend accounts that seriously break these terms.
This summary is for convenience. The full text below is what applies.
1.Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and TrackFame, the operator of TrackFame. By using the site — whether or not you create an account — you agree to them, together with our privacy policy, cookie notice and community guidelines, which form part of these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use TrackFame.
2.What TrackFame is
TrackFame is a free reference and community about famous people: profiles of public figures, search and browsing, and social features that let members follow people and each other, discuss profiles and suggest people who are missing. Profiles are written and published by our research team; members can suggest new people, but cannot publish or edit profiles directly.
We may add, change or remove features over time. We aim to keep the site available but do not promise that it will always be online or error-free.
3.Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and have a parent’s or guardian’s permission if the law where you live requires it.
- Give accurate information, and keep your email address current — we use it for security and account notices.
- One person, one account. Accounts are personal and may not be sold or transferred.
- Choose a username that does not impersonate anyone or suggest an official role. Some names (such as “admin” or “TrackFame”) are reserved.
- Keep your password secret and tell us immediately at support@trackfame.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it resulted from our failure to keep it secure.
- Some features — following, commenting and suggesting — require a verified email address.
4.Content you post and suggest
You keep ownership of what you post: comments, your profile, suggestions and photos (“your content”). To run TrackFame, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, format and distribute your content on and in connection with the service, including our API and search-engine listings.
Suggestions are different from comments. When you send a suggestion, you also allow us to use, edit, rewrite, combine with our own research and publish the facts and material you provide as part of a TrackFame profile, and to keep doing so after you delete your account. This licence is perpetual and irrevocable for material we have already used, because a published profile cannot work if parts of it can be withdrawn. Facts themselves belong to no one; this mostly matters for wording, sources lists and images.
You promise that you have the right to share your content, that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that it does not break these terms or the law. Only upload a photo if you took it yourself, it is under a licence that allows reuse, or you have the owner’s permission — and tell us which in the suggestion.
5.Contributor credit and points
When we publish a profile from your suggestion we credit you on that profile by name and award contribution points. Credit is a thank-you, not a right of ownership or control over the profile. You can hide your credit at any time in Settings. We may decide not to publish a suggestion, or to remove a credit, for example if the suggestion was copied from elsewhere or broke these terms. Points have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged.
6.Acceptable use
You must not use TrackFame to:
- post anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, violent or threatening, or that invades someone’s privacy;
- suggest or reveal information about private individuals, or private details (such as home addresses or phone numbers) about anyone;
- knowingly submit false information or fake sources, or impersonate any person or organisation;
- infringe copyright, trademark or other rights of others;
- spam, advertise, run vote or follower manipulation, or create accounts automatically;
- scrape or bulk-download the site beyond what our robots.txt and API rate limits allow, or get around rate limits, bot checks or access controls;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of our systems without our written permission, or upload malicious code;
- interfere with the site’s normal operation or other people’s use of it.
Found a security problem? Please report it privately to support@trackfame.com and give us reasonable time to fix it before disclosing it.
7.Using our API
Our public JSON API (under /api/v1) may be used for personal, research and non-commercial projects, within its rate limits, provided you credit “TrackFame” with a link to the relevant page. Commercial use, or use that substitutes for the site, needs our written permission. We may change or restrict the API at any time.
8.Moderation and enforcement
Our team reviews reports and may, at its discretion, hide or remove content, reject suggestions, or warn, restrict, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the guidelines — usually starting with the lightest step that fixes the problem. We are not obliged to monitor everything posted, but we act quickly on reports. If you believe we made a mistake, reply to our notice or contact us; a different team member will review your appeal.
9.Our intellectual property
The TrackFame name, logo and design, and the profiles, text, structure and selection of content written by our team, belong to TrackFame or its licensors. How you may quote and reuse it is explained in our copyright & content licence. Names and trademarks of the people and organisations we write about belong to their owners; mentioning them does not mean they endorse or are affiliated with TrackFame.
10.Links to other websites
Profiles link to official websites, social media and sources run by others. We are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Opening them is at your own discretion.
11.Disclaimers
TrackFame is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard on accuracy — see our editorial policy — but profiles can contain errors or become out of date, and community content reflects the views of its authors only. Please read our disclaimer. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
12.Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, TrackFame and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use TrackFame. Because the service is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (if any) or INR 5,000 (or its equivalent in your currency).
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
13.Your responsibility to us
If you break these terms or the law through your use of TrackFame, and that leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs arising from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
14.Ending this agreement
You can stop using TrackFame at any time and delete your account in Settings. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we discontinue the service — with notice where reasonable. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as content licences for published profiles, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law) survive termination.
15.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect new features or legal requirements. The date at the top shows the current version. For material changes we will give signed-in members notice by email or on the site at least 14 days before they take effect, unless a change is legally required sooner. Continuing to use TrackFame after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, you can delete your account.
16.Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Please contact us first — most problems can be solved quickly. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be heard by the competent courts of India. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring proceedings in your local courts.
17.General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor operator of the service. These terms, with the policies they refer to, are the entire agreement between you and us about TrackFame.
