Cannon-Brookes was born in the US and grew up in Taiwan, Britain and Australia. He studied information systems at the University of New South Wales, where he met Scott Farquhar.
Atlassian
In 2002 they founded Atlassian with a $10,000 credit card debt. Its tools Jira and Confluence became standard for software teams, sold online without a sales force. It listed on the Nasdaq in 2015.
Climate
Through Grok Ventures he has invested in clean energy, including buying a stake in the power company AGL to speed its exit from coal and backing Sun Cable.
CEO
He was co-CEO with Farquhar until 2024, when Farquhar stepped down, leaving him as sole CEO.
