Biography
Background
Palihapitiya’s family moved from Sri Lanka to Canada when he was six. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo and worked as a derivatives trader and at Mayfield Fund and AOL, running AIM.
At Facebook from 2007 to 2011 he led the growth team, using data to drive sign-ups and international expansion.
Social Capital
He founded Social Capital, investing in Slack, Box and others, and from 2019 launched SPACs that took Virgin Galactic, SoFi and Opendoor public.
