Robert Griesemer is a Swiss computer scientist who co-designed the Go programming language at Google with Rob Pike and Ken Thompson. He earlier worked on Google’s V8 JavaScript engine and on the Java HotSpot virtual machine.

Education
Griesemer earned his doctorate at ETH Zurich, at the institute led by Niklaus Wirth, working on a vector-programming version of Oberon.
Virtual machines
He worked on the Strongtalk system and the Java HotSpot virtual machine, which became the main Java runtime.
At Google he worked on the V8 JavaScript engine used in Chrome and on the Sawzall language for analysing data.
Go
In 2007 he began designing Go with Pike and Thompson. He led the design of generics, added to Go in version 1.18 in 2022.
