Reid Hoffman is an American entrepreneur and venture capitalist who co-founded LinkedIn, the professional networking site, in 2002 and sold it to Microsoft in 2016. He was an early PayPal executive, invested early in Facebook, and co-founded Inflection AI.

Background
Hoffman studied symbolic systems at Stanford and philosophy at Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. He worked at Apple and Fujitsu and founded SocialNet.
PayPal
He joined PayPal’s board and became executive vice-president, part of the group later called the “PayPal Mafia”.
In 2002 he co-founded LinkedIn, which launched in 2003 and grew to hundreds of millions of members. It went public in 2011 and Microsoft bought it for $26 billion in 2016; he joined Microsoft’s board.
Investing and AI
As a partner at Greylock he backed many start-ups. He was an early OpenAI board member and in 2022 co-founded Inflection AI. He hosts the podcast Masters of Scale and wrote The Start-up of You and Blitzscaling.
