Biography
Background
Persson grew up in Edsbyn and Stockholm and taught himself to program on a Commodore 128 at seven. He worked at the games company King and at jAlbum.
Minecraft
In May 2009 he released an early version of Minecraft, a block-building sandbox game inspired by Infiniminer and Dwarf Fortress. Players paid to join during development, and it spread through word of mouth and YouTube.
Mojang
He founded Mojang in 2009; the full game launched in 2011. Microsoft bought Mojang in 2014 for $2.5 billion.
Later
After the sale he left Mojang. Microsoft distanced Minecraft from him after controversial posts. He later founded the studio Bitshift Entertainment.
