Jay Chaudhry is an Indian-American entrepreneur who grew up in a Himalayan village without electricity and founded a series of security companies, culminating in Zscaler in 2007, which secures internet traffic for businesses through the cloud.
Biography
Background
Chaudhry grew up in Panoh, a village in Himachal Pradesh, walking miles to school. He studied electronics at IIT (BHU) Varanasi and moved to the University of Cincinnati for master’s degrees in engineering and business.
Career
He worked at IBM, NCR and Unisys before founding SecureIT, CipherTrust, AirDefense and CoreHarbor, several of which were sold to larger firms.
Zscaler
In 2007 he founded Zscaler, which routes companies’ internet traffic through its cloud for security instead of on-site hardware. It went public in 2018.
