Background
Mostaque was born in Jordan to Bangladeshi parents and grew up in Britain. He studied mathematics and computer science at Oxford.
Finance
He worked as an analyst and hedge-fund manager in London for more than a decade.
Stability AI
He founded Stability AI around 2019–2020 and funded the computing for Stable Diffusion, developed with the CompVis group in Munich and Runway. Its open release in August 2022 sparked a wave of AI image tools.
Resignation
Stability faced lawsuits from artists and Getty Images and financial trouble; questions were raised about some of his claims. He resigned as CEO in March 2024 to pursue decentralised AI and founded Intelligent Internet. He wrote The Last Economy.
