Mensch studied at the École polytechnique and earned a PhD in machine learning applied to neuroscience at Inria and Paris-Saclay.
DeepMind
He worked at Google DeepMind in Paris from 2020, contributing to research on large language models such as Chinchilla, which showed how to balance model size and data.
Mistral AI
In April 2023 he co-founded Mistral AI with two former Meta researchers. It raised a record seed round within weeks and released models such as Mistral 7B and Mixtral, many with open weights.
