This is a developing story. It reports information released by the police, statements made in court and coverage by established news organisations. All those arrested are accused persons; none has been tried or convicted. Claims of responsibility made on social media have not been verified by the police. Last updated: 27 October 2026.
On the evening of Sunday, 18 October 2026, gunmen fired at the car of actor Tiger Shroff in Juhu, Mumbai. He escaped serious injury, but the attack — the latest in a series of shootings targeting people from the Hindi film industry — has led to a wide police investigation across several states.
The incident
According to police and news reports, the firing took place at about 7 pm near a park in Juhu, as Tiger Shroff was leaving after a game of football, which he regularly plays there on Sundays. Two men on a motorcycle allegedly fired several rounds at his car before escaping; police believe a third person helped them get away.
Tiger Shroff was not seriously hurt and reportedly suffered only minor scratches from broken glass. His driver was injured and taken to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, and a passer-by was also hurt. Mumbai Police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, and the Mumbai Crime Branch took over the investigation.
The arrests
- 19 October 2026 — Acting on an alert from Mumbai Police, police in Kota, Rajasthan, detained three young men travelling by train, described as the alleged shooters. They were later brought to Mumbai.
- Following days — Investigators reportedly traced the suspects’ movements using CCTV footage and found the motorcycle used in the attack abandoned in Andheri. Two firearms and ten live cartridges were recovered near Surat railway station in Gujarat and sent for ballistic testing.
- 25 October 2026 — Police arrested a 22-year-old engineering student in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on suspicion of supplying a firearm and logistical help. News reports put the total number of arrests at eleven, from several states.
- Court proceedings — A Mumbai court remanded several of the accused to police custody so that investigators could continue questioning them.
Police have not publicly set out the full roles of each accused, and the allegations will be tested in court.
The claims of responsibility
Soon after the firing, social-media posts attributed to a man named Anil Pandit, described in news reports as an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility. A purported audio recording also circulated, demanding that actor Salman Khan apologise to the Bishnoi community. Anil Pandit is reported to be wanted in the case.
The police have said they are examining these claims and the alleged link to the gang, but at the time of writing they had not confirmed them, and the authenticity of the audio had not been established. Some reports, citing unnamed sources, have offered other theories about the planning of the attack; we have not included claims that have not been confirmed.
Reactions
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said those responsible would not be spared, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the attack. Film industry bodies called for better protection for people working in films. Tiger Shroff’s team has asked the public not to rely on unverified reports about his statements to the police.
What we still don’t know
- Whether the police will confirm the involvement of any organised gang, and the motive behind the attack.
- The specific charges each accused will face when the police file a chargesheet.
- Whether further arrests will be made, including of anyone alleged to have planned the attack from outside India.
We will update this article as the investigation progresses. For background, see our explainer on Lawrence Bishnoi and our timeline of threats to the film industry.
